I am in agreement with Matthias on this one. To say that improvisation is fast composition is an oversimplification of the term composition. It would be similar to say that speaking is really fast writing, which is not the case at all. Writers in the act of their craft, whether in intuitive or cognitive moments, take much more of an ontological approach. If they compose a segment that works within the greater aesthetic, they keep it. If not, they drop it. Improv is much like speaking in that once the statement is made it is out there. You can try to correct or elaborate upon the statement; but, regardless, the statement has been made and cannot be withdrawn. I hope everyone has a great weekend. Regards, Jeff
