RE: DD-20 continued

hi all,

i've been following this DD-20 thread with interest. I have been a long
time
DL-4 owner (like the day it was released or something close to that) and
my unit has not failed once. It has seen fairly minimal stage usage, and
I baby my stuff, too. I have heard of the many failures of these units,
from users groups and fellow musicians alike.

this dual loop function of the DD-20 sounds very interesting, but I have a
question. How exactly does the DD20 implement the delay time? For
example:

1. if you set the feedback on the memory slots to 100%, i'm assuming you
set this ahead of time, and not 'on the fly'. can you do feedback
adjustments on the fly? I'm sure this means bending down and adjusting
the pedal, but is it instant gratification, or in a submenu?

2. when you start playing into the DD20, is the delay time already set,
as well? So your 'loop' would have to conform to the delay time? (as in
the PDS pedal paradigm). Or, do you 'tap' in the delay time on the fly,
(more of a DL4 or EDP type paradigm) and then the loop/delay time is
captured at the second hit of the 'tap'.

3. Someone mentioned a 'bypass' switch, which was described as a 'punch
in/punch out' type function. Does this mean that you can set the feedback
to 100%, get a loop going, then 'bypass' out, and continue layering over
the loop, without it getting fed into the loop? This would be nice as
that is a classic methodology for the PDS series pedals, which I miss with
my DL4 very much. If you are in delay mode on the DL4 and set a high
repeat setting, everything you play gets fed into the delay line, unless
you have a more complex mixer/send setup (which I did for certain
situations).

hope someone can shed light on this. It looks like an interesting unit,
and i've played with one briefly. I want a pedal that does tap tempo type
delay work and can do infinite repeats with 'punch in/out' functions. DL4
meets PDS, please!

best,

rich
