Is this insane? not in the slightest. why not use the built-in audio ports? granted, they don't have the quality of a dedicated hardware box (you get what you pay for) but in a pinch i have used my miniplug out for shows without a complaint. if it works without any annoying hums, buzzes or clicks go for it.
