>>trying to figure out the best way to setup my repeater. I have been runnig
my repeater through my aux send on mackie dfx- 12 mixer. but I sometimes get
a unwanted reverb effect on the channel I'm trying to loop.<<

sounds like the repeater is getting a sniff of itself back through the desk. make sure you know how to "dry-mute" the thing (hold stop & hit overdub, I think), & that the aux-send is turned down on whatever channel the repeater is returned on.

incidentally, once you've mastered that, you might want to try turning down the overdub level on the repeater & feeding it back to itself through the aux send I just mentioned. this way, successive repeats can be tailored using the eq on the desk, so you get a gradual roll-off (or -on) of treble or bass, like a tape-delay. by extension, you can add other effects into the feeback loop too.
