Not really. I still haven't dispensed with the rack all together, but I'm about 75% toward being able to emulate everything in my rack, including the EDPs and guitar synth tones, with my notebook and VST. I'm basically building an equivalent system on the side and transitioning little by little to the notebook, so by the time I do eliminate the rack gear, there won't be a need to compensate for any losses. The tough unit to emulate with VST so far is the VF-1. It's those rich, octave/delay/LFO pad like sounds. That will take some doing, combining VST effects in serial, etc. It's a fun challenge but not insurmountable. There are thousands of VST effects out there...some free, some in the hundreds of dollars. And processing power hasn't been a problem for me thus far...I have 2.4 GHz processor, 500MB of RAM, PC notebook. Though I plan to by a commercial notebook in the near future that will blow these specs away and run a lot quieter and more efficiently with a Centrino Intel processor. Update on my VST effect purchases: I just purchased the Lexicon PSP 42 and 84 plugins, plus Antares Filter. In a few days I order Antares Kantos...an amazing VST plugin that has all sorts of synth sounds that sound great on the guitar. Also, I now have three VST looping plugins working in ProTools, Mobius, LoopyLama, and AngstroLooper.
