we-e-e-ll....... you might consider the plight of a three-dimensional being falling from an aircraft.... he has a pretty good sense of all three dimensions, but his movements are limited to two of them.

to truly exist in a dimension, one must surely have some control over one's movements in that dimension, rather than just an appreciation of it. (when does "dr who" start up again?)

at least as humans, we have some notion of our movement through time, & a sense of past & future. I think that's why we (i.e. the list) have this fascination with iterative sound recording processes:-

is it the same each time it comes around? it says on the box that it will be, & if I look at the waveform, it seems to be the same. only- ah- that last time..... I thought it sounded different somehow..... here it comes again, & now I've got two memories to compare it to. uh-oh, it was different again. I should try to keep my head still this time....

I think I can hear sonny & cher starting up somewhere. :-)
