This Wednesday March 23rd - The Devil In The Design,
Wierd State Inbetween and The Lonely Flight

This is the second of three Worthy Records showcases at
the PiNG & the launch for 3 new CDs. The CD descriptions
will give you a very good idea of their live presentations:

The Devil In The Design - "Cloudface" - A meditation on the
space above us, occasionally cloud covered and other times
just full of stars, but always moving in unpredictable and
sometimes capricious ways. Phil Ogison on electric guitar
through treatments with percussion, theramin and noise.
The superb artwork that comprises the package was created
for this project by world renowned but rather reclusive artist
Menno Krant, who, it is hoped, will be attending to sign CDs.

The Lonely flight - "Emotion - Flow" - Scott Johnson manipulates
keys and pedals to create wondrous shores and reaches of
the mind and universe. "Emotion - Flow" is not just a sonic
experience, it creates a place for your consciousness to
inhabit, a truly alternative universe.

Weird State Inbetween - "Harsh Winds, Many Flowers" -
A fuzzy collection of audio art, electronic noodles, non-computer
glitch, improvised ambient and distorted beat oriented craziness.
Most songs are improvised with minimal overdubs. Absolutely
no guitars were used on this release.WSIB (Anne Sulikowski
and Scott Johnson) will be joined by guest D.J.Pain who will be
complimenting them with his own weirdstate by using a variety
of electronics and sound manipulation methods.

For most concert-goers, music that leaves you speechless
is an amazing experience. When you're trying to capture your
rapture in words for a weekly column, however, the experience
ranks as one of life's guilty pleasures.

This was definitely the case on March 16, 2005: the PiNG
presented Adelaide, a band visiting Toronto all the way from
Portland, Oregon. Formed in the summer of 2003, Adelaide
shared their fascination with the interplay of sound & image
via a gorgeous set of sonic & visual experimentation. Grounded
by 16mm film projections of urban images, the concert featured
upbeat electronics, guitar and drum arrangements.

Celebrating his 26th release since 2000, Aiden Baker started
off the second set with a brief solo performance of ambient
looping guitar. More of Mnemosyne (Rich Baker on drums/
percussion and Luke Baker on bass) then joined Aiden onstage
to perform music from Figures, Aiden's newest CD. Judging
by the audience's reaction, the set was far too short for their
liking. Aiden and friends were only too happy to appease their
fans, playing another down tempo piece with shimmering
drums and pulsing guitar riffs and ending the evening on
a grace note.

Last week, I mentioned that PiNG artists and organizers are
exploring new directions for TAP. Plans are in the works to
publish a zine that appeals to and reflects the diversity
among PiNG artists and supporters. As editor of the zine,
I (aka Lynn Harrigan) look forward to hearing from those of you
who would like to contribute articles, reviews, photographs,
artwork, etc. Please send queries to luna@theambientping.com
and let your voice be heard. Contributions from other cities
and countries are welcomed.

rik maclean's *ping things* CD Reviews

We're very pleased to announce the addition of a variety
of titles by musique concrete mastermind Aube to the
ping things catalogue. Aube has become well known within
the abstract/experimental scene for his complex works
utilizing diverse source material which has been processed
and manipulated to create new and challenging soundscapes.
With each disc, one source material such as wire, water,
or glass is used as the basis for all of the sounds heard within.
Fascinating work by an intensely gifted performer, Aube's
releases regularly transcend the boundaries of the perception
of both music and art. To see a selection of Aube titles, visit:
