Sure thing. My mac is connected to the US-122 via USB cable. The US-122 only has RCA outputs, so I run an RCA cable out to my M-Audio near-field monitors. These are powered monitors, each with their own power cable. At the end of the RCA cables, I have to use a 1/4" plug adapter since the monitors have 1/4" inputs. That's my typical recording setup, and does not hum. Broken down: Mac > usb cable > tascam us-122 > stereo rca cable > 1/4" adapters > m-audio monitors. (NO HUM.) To test it out on a "live" setup, I unplugged the monitors and instead ran the rca cable into the 2 inputs on my guitar amp, which resulted in a nasty hum. I also tried running it into my PA: Mac > usb cable > tascam us-122 > stereo rca cable > 1/4" adapters > Peavey 300W powered mixer > (out through line-level monitor output) instrument cable > powered Crate monitor. (HUM.) I even tried it without the Peavey power amp: Mac > usb cable > tascam us-122 > stereo rca cable > 1/4" adapters > powered Crate monitor. (HUM.) Thanks. All of the above resulted in a nasty hum. The only one that doesn't is with the near-field monitors.
