In Tom Wolf's "Electric Koolaid Acid Test" ( about the Merry Pranksters and their Psychedelic Bus.The Who's "Magic Bus ,and the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour are both allusions to the Prankster Bus called Furthur, which is what it's destination sign said) it is told that the pranksters who had all sorts of arcanely arranged microphones, echos and tape loops going during their voyages, ( circa 1964) mic'd their guts and got similar gurgling sounds but when they did it too the intrepid, Neal Cassady (Driver of Furthur and Hero of Kerouac's"On the Road"),they got metallic clinks and clanks, which amazed the rest of them.
