RE: Simulate a sitar with guitar effects?

greetings,    Sitar aye?  you could physicaly modify any guitar to get that sitar~like sound by inserting an object(wood block)directly under the strings/butted up to the bridge.adjust the hight of said object till the strings buzz against it slightly.tuning low may help get that funky drone tone.heck you could put in a few levers and make it an on or off type thinggy."double locking tremelo feux sitar replacement bridge?"
scary visionary.

Hi Krispen,

Have you received the cds I sent you? I really loved your cds and dvd (remember, you sent them to me for a translation from italian to english...)

Just to get back to your question... have you tried to put the harmonizer/pitch shift effect very low in volume right after the flanger?

I usually use this kind of preset with the piezo on my electric guitar to obtain a sitar-like sound, and then I play a bit with the slide and the sustainer and the vibrato bar...

Since I don’t have a sitar, I don’t know if I actually obtain the best approximation, but on the recordings it seems a bit like it...

Yeah, I heard about this unit, but that it wasn't that great at emulating the instrument.  In any event, I just created a VF-1 patch that isn't too bad...I combined auto-wah (that is active in the high end range), EQ (notching all the low end and low mid range out), and flange (with the rate very low and depth high).  That is decent at mimicking the main playing string of the guitar, but getting the sympathetic strings is a different story. I might look for a VST effect where I can loop a drone in a particular key, and have it sound like the sympathetic strings...then I can play with my VF-1 patch over that.

I know, I have and play the sitar and shouldn't be asking this question, but does anyone know what mixture of effects might simulate the sound of a sitar? I was thinking of mixing some auto-wah with flange and a touch of high octave. Any other suggestions?  I was hoping to create the mix on my Boss VF-1.
