Quick clarification and correction on this. With the Intel dual core processor, there is only one cache (not two), but it is 2MB and shared by each core. Apparently, this is more efficent than each core having its own cache, where they couldn't combine memory to server one or both cores. Also, there is some benefit from using the dual core processor with just one app because some elements of the application will be handled by one core, and other elements by the other core. The benefits will be especially evident for those apps that have been written to utilize Intel's hyperthreading technology, which has been around for some time, but the greatest benefit will be in applications that are modified to take advantage of the dual cores. In short, for those of us using VST hosts and VST plugins, we won't be able to predict what level of improvement we would see. It would depend on how the applications are written. For those of you using several applications at the same time, you would see an obvious improvement.
