The IFPI is what the RIAA's piracy group WISHES they could be. This Gang of Four has yearly announcements about efforts they're supposedly doing against piracy, what a threat piracy is to (fill in the gap, what will it be this year? "threatens local repertoire" was the poor example in 2004). If you want retail placement outside the US, one needs an ISRC code. It's a fairly innocuous thing as far as I understand, though it has the potential for real abuse given the absence of management such things garner.
