Re: what a loop has to say

ok, so Jimmy Page said, "If you use it at the right time and it works,
then it's valid." i think it's always up to the musician (or any kind
of artist) to decide if a certain instrument, technique or effect
"works" at a given time. that said, it's also the prerogative of an
audience to make judgements based on whatever criteria they find
relevant. but purism always seems a bit arbitrary to me, whatever the
genre.

you can use an instrument (a guitar, a hardware looper, software, etc.)
to make music or you can use it to self-aggrandize. if you're just
showing off or faking a technique you haven't mastered, then the music
is bound to be boring. music made for the sake of the music, to me,
sounds better, no matter how "unskilled" or naive the player.

personally, i hope if my motives are pure and the audience is genuinely
listening, they'll like what they hear. unless it sucks. :)
