looks far too easy! I've not tried a JamMan but it does look like it would
do what I want - the only drawback being that it's mono not
stereo

Perhaps I don't understand clearly the problem
and the setup but would something like a digitech Jamman works?
You can transfer you loops from battery inside
the JM with usb and use the footswitch to cue the next loop. Once the
current loop has ended, the next one will starts and loop until you schedule
the next and so on. You would also be able to overdub on a loop until you
trigger the next one.
