I don't have advice on how to achieve the routing you are after, but another fun thing to do in this sort of setup if you've got a little signal flexibility is to get an Electrix EQ Killer and put it after the EDP to selectively drop out frequency bands in the loop. I'm not sure that's feasible in a straight-line loop signal flow, however.
