I agree with the previous posters that you don't need Pro for a single user laptop that won't be on a corporate network. Media Center basically adds software that can overlay the normal user interface with a simpler one designed for navigaion and selection of audio files, video files, and DVD playing from a distance using a remote control. It also has rudimentary DVR capabilities (recording shows off cable). It is similar to "Front Row" on the Mac. It's kind of cool, but unless you want the PC in your living room as an "entertainment hub" you may not find it that useful.
