i would mention here that as far as usb 1.0 you are correct, but with usb 2.0 you are wrong. a good example is the native instruments Kore controller, which communicates with usb 2 and gives you 2 in and 4 out. now that usb 2 is proliferating, one can't dismiss usb interfaces outright with out considering which "flavor" they are.
