OT;producing a cd?

Hey everyone!
>From what I've seen, there are a LOT of established and beginning
artists here with CD's produced by different labels. I am planning on
making a CD of my own (ambient/loopy/noise stuff). I have done a little
research into getting it done myself, but my big question is..how do I
go about getting a label to produce one for me? I am assuming it is a
lot less money? 
Do I send samples?
Any recommendations on labels?
