I'm using the Zoom G2 and I'm very happy with it (then again, I'm not a 
die hard purist either...).

It has very nice Amp simulations, you can set different micing settings 
(dynamic/condens., panning), it also has a nice "analogue" style gate and 
useful compresor in that context.
Just try it out.
