For the PiNG's NiNTH ANNiVERSARY we're returning to the comfortable sociable space of The Central (just west & south of the Bathurst Subway Station beside Honest Ed's & Suspect Video. (BTW - besides their fine beers they also serve delicious meals.) Like past anniversary shows, we've invited some good friends who have played a large part in the PiNG's history to perform. The sonics will be provided by mara's torment (rik maclean from ping things - who we're sure will be deeply inspired by the mighty rains we've been having), PHOLDE (Alan Bloor aka KNURL - performing on metal soundsculptures) and Whisper Room (a new ambient/improv supergroup with guitarist Aidan Baker from Nadja & ARC, Neil Wiernik aka NAW on bass guitar and Jakob Thiesen from Students and The Reversibles on drum machine.) Of course it wouldn't be an anniversary show without the evolving light paintings of General Chaos Visuals, so we're very happy to have Stephen Lindsey + Eric Siegerman returning for their sixth PiNG anniversary show performance. mara's torment: http://www.marastorment.com Pholde: http://www.pholde.com Aidan Baker: http://www.myspace.com/aidanbakermusic Neil Wiernik: http://www.phoniq.net Jakob Thiesen: http://www.virb.com/students General Chaos Visuals: http://www.generalchaosvisuals.com . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . COMiNG SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 21st 2008 . THE PiNG presents TEXTURES a Special Sunday Afternoon Concert with dSU (dreamSTATE, Sylken & URM), Building Castles Out of Matchsticks, GENERAL CHAOS VISUALS and more special guests TBA soon. @ The Textile Museum of Canada . 55 Centre Avenue South of Dundas . East of University . Map, info & directions at: http://www.textilemuseum.ca/visit/map.cfm Doors open at 1.30pm . 1st set at 2:00 . $6 . For September, we're planning something a little different from our usual in-club PiNG shows as we return to the Textile Museum of Canada's Auditorium for a Sunday afternoon concert. Come on out and settle back into the comfy seats to enjoy the sonic and visual textures emanating from the stage. . There'll be soundscapes and sequencer-driven space music piloted by dSU [Eric Hopper (Sylken), Scott M2 (dreamSTATE) and Jamie Todd (dreamSTATE & URM)] building on their late 80's & early 90's electronic explorations together as Radio Silence. dreamSTATE - http://www.dreamstate.to Sylken - http://www.myspace.com/sylkenmusic URM - http://www.urm.ca . Queen of the robots, Anne Sulikowski will be Building Castles Out of Matchsticks as she coaxes lovely sonics from her synths while cooing and musing overtop exploring both extraordinary events and the simple pleasures and boredom of her everyday life. http://www.myspace.com/buildingcastlesoutofmatchsticks . The auditorium is a large space, so who better to fill it visually than General Chaos Visuals, who will be bringing out their full arsenal of projectors and light toys to turn the theatre and the performers into a canvas for their evolving light painting. http://www.generalchaosvisuals.com . We're not done yet though. We will be announcing more acts soon for this special event - so stay tuned for more details in the next PiNG email. If you can't wait, just keep checking the PiNG site as things will be posted as soon as they're confirmed. Special thanks go to Maurie Todd and the Textile Museum of Canada for helping us to make this happen. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ping things is proud to present its fourth net label release, "Land" by Nunc Stans is a brand new and exclusive digital EP.
