looper vs storyteller. if there even is
a difference.
I was having a chat with my lady the other evening about music. Wow, how intriguing, I know. ;)
But more specifically... music as a story.
She posed an interesting question, do I view my songs as more stories, or sound manipulation with all that entails?
Certainly, we who make it, know that the lines are not that cut and dry.
But I will say... I do live looping stuff a bit, and never record it. To me, live. It's now. It's what is happening. It is more sonic manipulation than storytelling. Although certainly, it has elements of both.
Recorded, might capture those moments, but "recorded songs" are more about telling the story. WITH the sonics, of course. But more structure, more sequenced mixed with live looping/ability to turn sequence on/off and loop fully in those moments (and partially when it is sequenced)....
... sequencing gives more prethought, to me.
Which is both a plus and a negative. It both makes your "story" more specific, and also constricits you to telling the story you made when you wrote "that". Which invariably has changed since you wrote it, if you are on this list, or so I'd think.
So, the question:
A)Is your music more story or sonic manipulation?
B)Do you more often loop or sequence? mix? what measure of the two and do they ever intermix?
C)How do you feel looping vs sequencing affects "story"
D)How do you feel music can be a story, if you feel such?
E)What's the latest "story" you're stoked on? and why?
