interesting discussion thank you!
analog is ancient, with analog came accidents, scratches, charm and imperfections. i think there is habbit issues but there is also something else :
like some sort of nostalgia, even a nostalgia for a period when we weren't born. nostalgia for an age where things were more "authentic". as perfection is often associated with coldness.
like when it comes to pop/rock/folk, most people would prefer a dirty singer-songwriters with beard to a professional skilled and shaved tight guy in a suit. even if it's false, it feels more authentic. sad as it may sound.
there is some charm in the clumsyness, some charm in default, in untrained voices.
it's interesting that a lot of young people like lo-fi so much, it's so much of an attitude
sometime.
i also ended up here http://www.wnyc.org/shows/radiolab/episodes/2006/04/21

I wouldn't have guessed the results, but I'm also not surprised by them. It makes sense that sound preferences are learned and not inherent.
