Yes, I did that a lot a couple of years ago. MIDI Clock worked well as
the sync protocol. I have also found it work well with Pulse Sync if I
first record the pulse tones from the Echoplex into the computer and
then have them sent out into the Echoplex to follow tempo.

I take that as you wanting to sync the Echoplex to follow Ableton Live
running on a Mac? Ableton Live being the Sync Master and the Echoplex
the Sync Slave? If this assumption is correct my advice above will be
relevant.
