OT: New MBP... or not? (Firewire still necessary?)

Hi folks

well, the new MacBook Pros are out now...
For those waiting for a 15"/17" model: hooray, you got yourself a nice MBP 
with i5/i7 processor now.

If you were - like me - waiting for a 13" MBP... it's still Core2Duo! :-((
Which kind of really sucks, thinking about the wonderful Sony Vaio Z 
series or Lenovo Thinkpad X201 that you can get for the money.

Anyway, the question is:
Is it still essential to have Firewire interface?

Cause I'm thinking of ditching Firewire, getting a Motu Ultralite Hybrid 
instead (my FW disks support USB, too).
This way, I'd get a cheap MacBook and wait a bit longer for a high-end 
laptop.

What do you guys think?
