Re: Looper software for live performance
Please let me add some info on Logelloop here, as I own that looper
and like it a lot. What's cool IMHO is that the mixer (10 loop tracks
+ 3 different effect tracks) can save "snapshots" of total settings,
called "presets". Such mixer presets can be used to radically alter
the sounding playback of all loops. Not only track volume and pan is
handled but also Strech, Speed, Pitch and other parameters. So when
performing with Logelloop you can both make loops and switch between
those loops as well as you may jump between alternate mixer presets to
alter the playback of those loops. A preset may include dynamic stuff
like "auto-pan" as well (script).
Now the really cool thing is that there is a global mixer parameter,
called "interpolation", that sets a time span for the mixer to move
all parameter values from one preset to the values of the next called
preset (like "inertia" in Augustus Loop, but "interpolation" works on
all mixer parameters). Example: Imagine you go from one preset into
another one that has a different Speed or Pitch setting for some
tracks. What happens then, with interpolation active, is that the
loops playing through those tracks will seamlessly glide towards the
pitch of the next mixer preset (think about the THX theatre sound
effect jingle).
While Mobius is like "eight brother synced stereo EDPs on speed"
Logelloop is more like an electronic instrument in its own right of
which live looping is one of the things you can do. Logelloop is not a
plugin. It is not a classic host application either, although you can
open some VST or AU plugins on tracks as well as the special Logelloop
plugins (Granulaterre is my favorite, combining step sequencing and
real time sampling - all inside the live looping paradigm). Download
the PDF manual to check it out more!
