Introduction & naive questions (boss rc2)

hi-welcome to the list.
here are my comments, they are general, not probably real specific to the rc2.
i think the 1st thing you need to realize, is there is no ONE MAGIC LOOP DEVICE FOR ANY ONE PERSON.
i had a boss rc20 until a little over a yr ago (this is the original one that had 5 min of recording time, not the XL model), had it for probably a bit over a yr. loved it at times, hated it at other times. i most liked the ability to do reverse, which i don't think the rc2 can do.
this is sort of my take on loopers-YOU HAVE TO FEED IT THINGS, it takes your playing and repeats it.
sure you could try other devices and all.  (& i have no experience w/ software route...others like it & get good results of course)
the one thing i sort of hated about the rc units is that the loops are static, you can't play w/ them, w/ pitchshifting them or slow down/speed up.
but there is a way to cheat w/ this-put a delay in front of it and have delay fun (think tommy bolin echoplex madness for fun, or you could think more of the fripp soundscapes he created w/ early tape loops)...there is so much you can do w/ delays before it.
just a suggestion.
as for loop length and mastering time stuff, well, that takes time and practice,
as a friend of mine who's a professional singer/songwriter says: YOU ALWAYS NEED TO WORK ON TIMING, it's  a never ending process....

i would also recommend reading the david torn musings/suggestions on looping that's in the archives, it's from GP back in the 90s. i still think he talks about a lot of good suggestions for process on looping. the devices may change and may be limited, but the approach to how you explore is the same.
honestly, i still think my best stuff, is when i would mess w/ the 2 sec delays on my old digitech rp100, glitch it all up and feed it to my basic sampler on my old dod d12. i had a simple setup and just explored and explored....need to do that more....
good luck & happy hunting...
