For authentic bluesy hanky sounds you need to blow your nose at midnight in the middle of a cemetery with some chicken hearts in your back pocket. Then, and only then, will your hanky have the percussive banjo or reso sounds you crave!

wow what a great thread thanks so much for the tips.

I saw the bluesman Clarence Gatemouth Brown play with a handkerchief lightly tucked between strings up near the nut, got some nice percussive banjo-esque sounds. Whenever I tried it I could never make it sound the same........
