Basic equipment is just as proper as complex equipment. The most
common looping equipment I see is DL-4s and Loopstations.

Also, being a looper in a band context, it's better to not be
distracted by all the bells and whistles and feelings of "I'm only
using 10% of my looper's brainpower!"
...or drowning out the rest of the band with your multiple versions of 
yourself!

I think it's important to get the looping device to work for your
band, rather than vice versa. The DL-4 starts out good and modest for
band applications.
