Re: livelooping articles for a guitar magazine

Hi Michael, sounds like you have you hands full:-)
If i might add my own two cents.  I understand  that famous faces and names sell magazines,  and gear, and many of the folks mentioned so far will help in that way, and do represent artists who either are actively using looping in there live shows, or are iconic musicians with storied careers who have been doing it  since the technology first arrived on the scene. In most cases the looping technology is being used in a fairly conventional way, create  a  loop and  add overdubs. example: Neil Schon of Journey as been using a pair of EDP's forever (Kim Flint helped him set them up) which he uses un clocked to lay down his rythm tracks live. note to  Randolph: if you get a  version of  Don't Stop Believin'  together, I might be able pull James Durbin in to sing it :-)  I think its a great idea to show a popular tune adapted for looping step by step. Also  looping seems to be the go to tool for many guitarist singer/ songwriters  like KT Tunstill,  and  Joseph Arthur,  to flesh out there solo sound.  There is so much of this going on among the new crop of singer songwriters its hard to keep track of. But so far with the possible  exception of Eivind Aarset who I haven't seen play live, so I can't verify, most of these established acts are not perhaps using the technology in the way that Per described,  of looper as instrument. And for that reason alone I hope you will get a chance to shine a light on  the extended techniques we have  been discussing, using,  and sharing via web links.  I subscribe to Guitar Player magazine and I've been watching closely as they weather the transition from print to a combo of print and web based zine, and it seems like they are puttung a lot more links to extend articles and video based interviews and demonstrations in there shrinking print magazine, as the expand the web side of it. What this might allow for is more liberty in exposing people to the not so mainstream  acts who are doing exciting things with these extended techniques.  I don't know how everyone else feels but I'd rather watch a vid of someone I've never seen play before do something new and interesting with the tools than see an establish player, even one who has been around long enough to have the bragging rights to have been "there" since the beginning, do something they've been doing with the technology for the last 20-30 years.  I'd like to see the community grow so I am in favor of you mentioning LD as well, As well as the Y2K series and various Looping festivals that have occured. When I thinking of cutting edge looping,  I don't think of Bill Frissel or John Scofield throwing a bit of backwards DL-4 loop over a vamp. Don't get me wrong I love both of those guys, but I hope you can cast some light on lesser known artists who are really inovating, some of which inhabit this list.
