Matthias, I posted this yesterday: " http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/Can-you-get-audio-digital-out-iPad "Submitted by The Computer Au... on Sat, 08/14/2010 - 20:24. Joined: 11/28/2007 .:. I'm sure it's something very neat but right now I'm lost :~) To answer the question about the iPad outputting digital audio -> The headphone jack is only analog. But the dock connector can output digital audio with the camera connection kit. You can only connect to a 16 bit USB DAC, but at least it's digital out. A good 16 bit DAC for this is the Devilsound / Halide Design DAC." **** But I stand corrected on one count: the Alesis ioDock does not appear to do ANY conversion. While the 30-pin connector DOES carry a digital audio signal (that's what makes it possible to use an HDMI connection to have Hi-Def A/V) apparently the ioDock is using ONLY the analog audio signal. Still haven't' found a definitive answer/source for that, but that's the conclusion I'm getting to on what I'm finding. I suppose that technically you could grab the digital signal off the right pins if you knew how to design the hardware & software to do it…that's a bit beyond me, tho'!
