I quite like it when an act's stage presence or persona is irreducible to individual personalities - like Gorillaz, for instance. (A geeky aside: in ancient Latin the word 'persona' meant 'mask' - every persona is a mask, some just choose to mask that fact by trying to appear 'authentic'!) However, it irks me a bit when bands refuse to interact with their audience when on stage. I mean, you don't necessarily have to do the whole 'showmanship' thing and have a chat with the people who've come to see you but it smacks of pretension to just walk on and play as if they're not there.
