Re: Introduction and invitation

The only looping-related thing I discovered before I signed up for
Looper's Delight was looping itself.
I didn't even know live looping existed (actually, I heard a short
Amazon-preview music
sample of Tim Exile doing it before I heard about the list). But I had
zero plans of doing live
looping when I signed up here. I signed up because looping (prerecorded,
that is) is something I
frequently use; song remixes, making my voice echo on a recording, etc., I
never thought about
live looping, until I started receiving posts. In other words, if it
weren't for the guys that post here,
most of the traffic on the list from me would be spent talking about
Audacity, Goldwave,
Fruityloops, and other generic editing software. And it still is; I just
throw in a few Terry
Riley-related or Per Boysen-related comments, such as "Boysen's Science
and Technology
Music is one of the best albums I ever heard in my life, and so is Terry
Riley's Rainbow in
Curved Air!" I sometimes talk about Gibson Echoplexes, Boss RC 50 and
such, but I
don't own any. I joined here because I consider repeated samples an
essential part of much
electronic music and remixes. Any electronic artist who loops is invited
here. Some
electronic musicians (like me in early 2004) just set their electronic
keyboard to a generic
"bleep, bleep" sound, and play it like a normal piano. That is the only
example of non-looping
electronic music I can think of. Now, I put a techno beat on my keyboard,
and play along
with that; I consider that looping. It might not be allowed by the y2k
looping fest, but y2k isn't
the only one in the world. My looper friend and I do all our looping
prerecorded; so I recorded the
sound of a crowd; I'll loop it in studio! So she recorded the sound of a
siren at camp; she goes
home, loops it, and then incorporates it into the song. We still take
pride in the fact that it is a
repeated sample; a loop! I mean, I love live looping as much as any of
you! Otherwise I'd
be sick of the links people post; I think it's fascinating that people can
loop live! Wow! And Riley was doing
that in the 60s? What what what? I practice live looping with some
Javascript-based computer
software I developed, but I'm not ready for a festival yet. I need to
combine the multitracker and the
looper with the synchronizer buttons, which is going to take some work.
