Re: Was: FCB 1010 Question, Is: 12 step

I only just caught up with this thread since I've never owned an FCB1010, but the 12 step was mentioned & it's definitely the Softstep that was being talked about earlier, with the diamond-shaped 'navpad'.
I was one of the early adopters, & having had one replaced 'cos it broke, I just got hold of the Mk 2 - better ergonomically, & the notorious backlighting hum has been fixed (now LEDs). So far though, I've found it incredibly over-sensitive; breath on it & it puts out CC127s all over the shop!
The new editor is simpler, loads quicker & is less of a resource-hog (only 200MB of RAM!), but the navpad still isn't programmable in the same way as the rest of the pads. I don't use the KMI software, so I'm not too familiar with it, but the Mk 2 does seem a bit dumbed down to reduce its footprint.
Having spent the last three years refining my own bidule version of controller software, I've got quite a lot of investment in continuing to use it (four functions per button as well as continuous control, incremental, program change etc, and the navpad can function just like any other pad!), but if you're new to it, & are going to depend on the KMI software, I can't in all honesty recommend it. A lot of users seem over the moon with their new Mk2s, but it's early days yet. The size, weight, concept etc is great, but be prepared for frustration & headaches before you get it usable.

Im still trying to figure out how to pay for one :)  I am definitely interested though, the size ,weight, silent switch, aspects are very appealing for not driven programs or possible foot triggered bass notes.

no way to program the diamond button config at right

Reading this again, it strikes me that you're probably talking about the softstep rather than the 12 step...

The softstep seems like a generally disliked controller, whereas the 12 step is another beast entirely.
