It sounds pretty groovy with DADGAD, for that matter-- and it does play a factor here, esp with the e-Bowed stuff, as it changes the character of the open strings.
It's a harmonic capo. They allow you to play harmonics without using your fingers. http://www.weaseltrap.com/capo.html I didn't make much use of it, though.
