Re: UNSUBSCRIPTIONS due to my bad mistake and a moment to clarify my position 'leadershipo' and the production of Loop Festivals

Remember verbosity is in fact the norm.
"Twittering" (keeping your point to below 150 characters) is not.
Long live the wordy rambling essay!

Hi, Rick Walker here:

I just wanted to say,  that I apologize that two people who are
both important members of our community unsubscribed because
I mistakenly,  sent a private message here instead of to my looppool address.
It was an honest mistake and I'm deeply upset I made it and I want to go
on record and say,  I hope that the people who unsubscribed will
reconsider and come back an join,  for the important members
of the community that they are.

Towards that end,
I also have emailed both of those people privately to
1) apologize for having sent that out, publicly
2)  to let them know that Loopers Delight's Daily Mailing Digest
is not a 'leadership' forum.    It's collection of loopers who've been
here since Kim started the website.   It does have members who
have been loopfestival producers over the years,  but no one
has used it as a leadership forum.

and MOST IMPORTANTLY, to let them know that both of them are important and long
standing members of our looping community and that it would
be sad if they quit this daily digest because they were upset with me.

Kim Flint,  our founder,  was dead set against there being any definition
about what makes looping, looping  and though I disagreed with him,
initially,  I really have come around to see the wisdom in his
decision to never moderate this list.

And to everyone else,  I want to go on record and say.
There is no 'leadership forum',  anywhere.

The Loopers Delight Daily Mailing Digest is certainly not one.

In the production and creation of the Y2K Loop Festivals,  I do have an
email list of all those who have produced loop festivals all over the world,
But I only use that list when it is time to try and coordinate loop festivals
in Europe, the UK, America and Southeast Asia so that loopers can
join 'loop tours' in the late spring/summer.  This email list, even, is
not  a leadership forum.

It's important to know that all of the looping festivals produces
have a very loose association with the Y2K Main Festival (and many have no
association with it).    The philosophies about how festivals are created
and how there are defined are very unique and frequently divergent
from the Y2K Main Festival...........so there is no consensus
or over guiding philosophy.     A lot of people have similar definitions of
what constitutes 'live looping' and some of us agree about those definitions
but there is No overriding RULE for any of the festivals
aside from the rules that people set individually.

Lastly,  my entire intention with the production of Y2K and my attempts to try
and spread it to other countries is to create community, foster creativity and innovation
and generate support for each other's artistry.
 COMMERCIALIZATION:
In the Y2K Santa Cruz loopfest, I do, and  very purposefully, eschew attempts to commercialize the festival so the only 'sponsors' we have for the festivals
are the result of individual contributions for members of the community.
Even when we've had corporations donate to us,  they have been corporations that, specifically
have members of our community as their heads.
This is not true of many other festivals.   I'm really fine with that difference

Y2k IS, specifically defined as  a live looping festival and I am unapologetic for
that approach (mostly because I couldn't accommodate all of the groups
that use looping in a more D.J., pre recorded loops with real time processing
kind of way or groups where only one member of the group uses looping).
But that is only defined by me in the one instance.
There are those who agree with me, but there are also  lots of loop festivals that don't have
"making loops live only" rules for performance and they are all equally legitimate
approaches in my eyes.

So, there is no formal leadership approach.    It would be impossible to have one
because as anyone who has ever produced a festival knows:   Trying to get
live loopers to agree to agree on philosophy is tantamount to herding cats.

So,  if you know the peeps who unsubscribed personally,  please encourage the
to resubscribe............I would never in a million years wish them to unsubscribe
in the first place.

Peace, and ,again,  my continued apologies for accidentally sending
that post that caused all of this.    It won't happen again.

I've memorized the Daily Digest email addy and removed it from my stupid email software
<sheepish grin>

If you made it this far, (I can be oververbose)
I appreciate it,      happy looping,  Rick Walker
