Kim researched the community building capability of the different formats, and chose the mailing list.
It worked. 




....and the worst of it is, Facebook is now totally awful for sharing videos

Facebook is good for posting videos.  For long conversation threads it's terrible.  I miss the mailing list too, but a forum would be the best in-between choice.  It organizes things into topics that are easier to find, but it doesn't do that "relevancy" folderol Facebook thinks is helpful but I find extremely annoying.  But it takes effort and expense to host a forum while Facebook is free, so here we are.
