The first music I was involved with was in 2nd Grade, my teacher would play John Denver songs every morning before class and we would all sing along. Things got weird later on. At about that same time, my little brother and I would play with our dad's tape recorder - recording our voices with the record and FFWD buttons depressed and then listening to it at normal speed (scared our grandma, for sure). My first job at age 16 was as a dishwasher 10 miles away, and when I'd bike home at night I was a little disturbed by the sound of creatures stirring in the woods along the road. I bought my first pair of headphones and a handful of cassettes to keep my mind off this. For about 45 minutes each way I would immerse my head into the musical spaces I was listening to, and fell in love with listening to all the crazy, subtle sounds in the music. I loved trying to follow all the individual parts simultaneously, and keeping track of their placement and tone. Later, after a year and a half of college majoring in Finance (don't ask), I ran out of money (there's a clue) and began working in a 24 track project recording studio as a MIDI and synth tech, as well as tracking and mixing a number of local punk bands (really the nicest people to work with). My day job was cooking at a pizza/pasta joint, and after a while it hurt, I smelled bad, and I kept having to work weekends. One day as I was troubleshooting the audio software I was working with (performer on a mac IIc) , I scratched my head, thought about making pizzas at work that night, and shortly thereafter embarked upon my eventual career as a Systems Engineer. I'm primarily a rhythmic/harmonic guitar player in a space-indian-funk vein. Lots of tone color dynamics, mostly pentatonic based. Not much of a jazz player, but I know where my flat 5 is. I enjoy creative drum-n-bass styles, but am inspired very much by african/indian percussion styles, informally. Was fascinated early on with crazy synth tones (I love a low pass filter with Q on anything), but couldn't play keyboards worth a damn. I've mostly abandoned the synth guitar as guitar approach, and instead am trying to develop a tapping style to trigger tones from the Z2. I like cats.
