When Jimi Hendrix, for instance, emerged into the public consciousness he
brought a new vocabulary to the instrument, and to music in general.
No-one
had thought to put all those techniques together before. Thirty years
later
there are a million guitarists who can do a quite credible imitation of
Jimi--his approach has become part of the common musical vocabulary. The
first guy to the top of Everest has it much harder than all the guys who
then follow his path. Likewise, faking seventies Tangerine Dream twenty
years later isn't that difficult. You've got a well-drawn road map at this
point.
