I'm having a very similar problem with my Trigger Finger and Ableton Live 5.  Googling seems to indicate that there are some problems with the drivers, and even this latest update (dated 12/31/07) doesn't fix the problem.  Apparently, if you call M-Audio you get instructed to reinstall Windows.  Uh, no.

For now, I'm just powering it with an adapter and sending MIDI through a standard MIDI port.

I have gotten a signal coming through from the trigger finger and
started triggering impulse rather easily although after about 30secs
or so the connection is lost and I no longer recieve any midi signal
from the trigger finger. I have tried reloading Ableton and turning
the TF on/Off but to no avail. I am rather stumped. What could be the
problem.

Really need more than 30secs of connnection time to start this project
