I was really scared that the short setup time would doom me - I run 5 programs that talk to each other (soon to simplify somewhat).

I solved it (with *ample* time to spare!) by creating an automator script that opened every file I needed. But before it runs, it puts up a checklist of preconditions to manually manipulate (it is *not* easy to automate *everything* with this tool, so i just automate what's easy), and after it runs, it puts up another checklist of what I need to complete manually.
