Re: USB Key albums



As far as I know, it's still much more expensive to mass produce USB
keys than CDs, since there are more parts. Given that the next step in
size (downloads) is already around and popular, I don't think USB keys
will ever be more than a tiny niche of music sales.

I have heard of some bands bringing an extra laptop on tour, with the
ability to download the new CD onto a fan's USB key. I can see that
working well: the fans buy the "download" while they're still excited
about the band, and the band makes a much better share of the money
than with download services like iTunes.

You can buy USBs in bulk for something like that, but even when you
get 1000+ of them, I don't see the price for each key getting less
than $6 or so.
