I've just tried driving 10V into a neck p/u, which doesn't seemed to have harmed it - hasn't started any strings oscilating though! The unit measures at about 8Kohm, meaning about 1mA is flowing through the coils. Not enough, it seems... I might give Kent Armstrong a call next week about low-impedance pickups...
