In response to both these threads about MIDI CC resolution and non-linear expression pedal behaviour, I decided to incorporate following functionality in the GORDIUS product line ( not available yet !) : The GORDIUS Little Giant is an FCB1010 extension module and/or stand-alone floorboard with a few inputs for standard expression pedals. In the current design, these can be used to perform a standard MIDI 7-bit continuous control. I intend to keep the "incoming" resolution of the expression pedal down to the standard 7 bit (128 distinct values), because testing confirms what has been mentioned before: it's hard to use the sweep of an expression pedal for a finer adjustment than these 7 bits. What's far more important is the resolution and the form of the curve, actually being used for controlling volume (or any other parameter for that matter). So I will look into the possibility to download to the floorboard (over USB or MIDI) a 14-bit lookup table, which converts the expression pedal sweep into any customizable non-linear curve, which can be sent using MIDI message MSB/LSB pairs with a combined resolution of 14 bit. Ideally, together with this functionality, I would need to provide a PC tool which allows you to draw any curve and download it to the floorboard for immediate use - so you could easily experiment with your expression pedals and finetune the curve to your personal taste. Again : not available yet, but the different threads on this forum make me believe this might be interesting functionality. But I'd say, given the current state of controllers out there, that the original solution you hit upon is the most compatible, since most pedals can be set to manipulate Pitch Wheel. I'd wonder if there are any pedals other than the ones that we've mentioned that will even merely transmit proper MSB/LSB Mod Wheel, rather than dumbing it down to MSB only. > So, I think, instead of the a new ultimate looper, we need an > ultimate midi pedal.. which is not a new topic either.. :) I heard you there! The sad thing is that I've actually gone through and done some design work for a MIDI widget that could fairly easily incorporate something like this. Problem is, while I can put stuff together on paper, I know crap about programming embedded systems or, for that matter, doing hardware manufacture in general. I've played at fabricating some boutique stompbox 'ideas', but that's a fur piece from what would be required for the circuit of a data project like the one I've in mind.
