Dear Rick, Bill and loopers,
I have been reading Victor Wooden's book "The Music Lesson". It brought me
some thoughts that I would like share with you.
I have started playing the guitar nearly 20 years ago. Played in many
bands, composed a lot of music etc. After my university degree on
industrial engineering, I have done my masters on sound engineering and
electroacoustic music composition. While there I learned some many things about
production ( that is the good side ) at the university, now I notice that i
have lost my realself, my openness to different kinds of music, improvisation
skills. It seems that I have been in a mid-depression state while i was at the
university although i have been experiencing success as an international
composer, guitarist.
One weird thing has happened nearly a year ago at the looping festival.
After i got out the plane in san francisco, i have noticed that my laptop
was not working. all of my live set depended on it, and i did not know what to
do. thanks to rick and bill walker i have managed to give a nice concert at the
opening show without my equipment. i had to improvise with equipment that i did
not know about. but somehow everything went pretty ok, much better than i
expected actually.
This event was the most satisfying gig for me for a long time. It was as if
something has clicked in my mind and everything went into its right place. i
have noticed how critical i was about myself, my playing and everything in
general. after this weird, incredible gig, I have done many other impro albums (
which will be released in 2009 and 2010 ) and they all sounded great. after many
years, i have realized my artistic potential as a an improviser, composer,
musician. after that gig, i have been working like crazy. i have nearly finished
10 new albums, many commissions, other projects. will start new albums with
eno's guitar player, nina persson etc.
So I would like to thanks to Rick and Bill Walker and all of this community
to help me realize who I am as a musician.
Bets regards. Happy new year to you all!
