Re: OT: (sorta) Laptop Suggestions

My advice would be to pay attention to the chipset of the firewire
and/or usb controller, depending on what sort of audio interface you
are using. Go to the forums for whatever audio interface you intend to
use, and check to see what laptops people are praising or complaining
about.

Generally speaking, the processor speed and RAM are good indicators of
performance, but a bad audio driver will screw everything up. The TI
chipset seems to be the gold standard for both USB and Firewire. I
returned several dell laptops, but I'm very happy with the performance
of my Acer Extensa 5620-6030 Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz, 3Gb RAM.
