I'm an EDP guy and love SUS/Replace and SUS/Insert modes, but even
with basic loopers, starting with an empty loop, stomp on overdub
quickly to create stacatto blips while sustaining long notes. On next
pass you'll get a bumpier ride.  If you're careful, you can
superimpose more blips in the holes with other pitch and timbre
values. It's hard to do it super fast, so It won't sound "granular"
but it can create interesting chopiness.
