Zoe, have you experimented yet with Live's new looper as a possible replacement for Sooperlooper?

ps...i say "safely" because, while my computer is capable of live recording more simultaneous loops, I've just noticed that the glitch/failure rate increases with each loop (esp if some of them are really long). So I like to stick with 6 and 6 since it seems the most stable.

I use Ableton for one shot loops and SooperLooper inside of it for overdub/sound-on-sound looping.
With 4GB of RAM on my MBP I can manage, safely, 6 SooperLooper loops and 6 Ableton ones.

works well so far

Not only for guitarists, the Ableton Looper gives you classic sound-on-sound looping without the limitations of a hardware device.
