I'm going to add to this by writing:

I know a lot of well spirited, green oriented human beings who would never
write their congressperson or attend a political rally.

These things are not going to fix themselves.   We are going to have to
push for it and vote with our spending dollars and vote the people out of
office who are complacent about these issues or who are in the pockets
of big business.
