I have the RC-2 and I don't remember it correcting my timing. You just 
Rec>Play>Overdub>Play and that's pretty much it. (Just turn down the 
rhythm track.)

I don't know if RC-3 is really an improvement. I haven't looked at it 
thoroughly yet.

Have fun in the woods - sounds really interesting! :-)
