Yes, it's possible, there's a guy on the Mobius forum that made a Bidule 
group to do something similar.

I'm pretty sure someone made a Max/MSP patch but I can't find it right now.

I had considered writing a little VST plugin to do the MIDI translation 
but lost interest in it
after they fixed standalone mode.

Well I'm part way there.. Using MIDI Pipe I've got the standalone CC
messages translated to the desired Note... But in still getting loads of
pressure data messages... So instead of a clean Note On / Note Off, I'm
getting dozens of one or the other, with variable pressure values for each
one.

It's enough to make me believe its possible, and to indicate that at this
point the challenge is in the MIDI translator, rather than the SoftStep.
